Enterprise Loan Fund

Picture of a man with a bag

The Business Enterprise Fund is a loan fund for business owners and people wishing to start in business who cannot raise funds from conventional sources such as the bank. Using pump-priming monies from the Government, the fund was established in 2004 and has already helped over 100 people to improve their business and raise the finance they need to grow or start in business.

It now covers Leeds as well as Bradford, and has recently undergone a significant expansion, taking on new staff.  Fund Manager Steve Waud is now supported by Meg Heath, Tariq Ismail, Colin Nesbitt and Ray Walker.

The team will work specifically on the Local Enterprise Growth Initiative (LEGI), to help with business opportunities in targeted areas, and are all based in Bradford Chamber's offices in Devere House.

The Business Enterprise Fund will:

  • Help you to create a business plan for a viable proposition

  • Help you access finance from mainstream sources such as banks, or from our loan fund

  • Provide mentoring support to help you keep the business on track

  • Put you in touch with other sources of finance and support.

The Business Enterprise Fund provides new and young businesses with finance and support when they need it the most. Often, in the early years of a new business it can be difficult or impossible to raise money to finance business growth.

This Fund is there to help entrepreneurs with a good proposition to overcome barriers to growth by providing mentoring support and help to develop a business plan and raise funds needed to start or grow the business. The Fund makes loans to individuals in need of help, so the money repaid into the fund will continue to support enterprise in the future.

The loan fund has helped Tony Hutton, boss of Hutton Shredding and Recycling (HSR), set up on his own.

“We had about half a dozen meetings, where I was guided through every aspect of starting a business, who I should speak to about certain things, what I should find out and where I needed to go. They were absolutely brilliant.  They worked on a business plan with me and sorted out a loan. That was after the banks had turned me down.”
